Hello, my name is Changwei Zhou, and I’m the founder of biochi, a tea lounge that offers organic and authentic tea from China.
I was born and raised in China, where tea is an integral part of the culture and lifestyle. I moved to Belgium to study at Antwerp, where I graduated with a degree in business administration. In 2008, I started working for a food company, but I soon realized that I was not passionate about their products, which contained artificial additives and preservatives.
One day, as I was walking with my family in Sint-Niklaas, where we settled down, I saw some billboards advertising commercial beverages. They claimed to be healthy and refreshing, but I knew they were full of sugar and chemicals. They made me think of a different idea — a tea lounge that would offer healthier and tastier options, made with natural ingredients and traditional methods.
I decided to pursue my dream and open my own tea lounge, but first I had to overcome some personal challenges. In January 2014, I had a blood test that revealed some alarming results — high cholesterol, fat, and diabetes risk. I realized that I had to change my habits and improve my health. I decided to avoid medication and switch to tea, cutting down my coffee consumption by 75%. I also started eating more balanced and nutritious meals, with less meat and more vegetables. The result? Perfect health! My blood test results improved dramatically, and I felt more energetic and happier.
In November 2014, I opened biochi Waasland in Stationsstraat, Sint-Niklaas, and then biochi Antwerp in 2017. Our tea lounges feature the charm of traditional oriental style with 100% natural and recycled materials, creating a cozy and relaxing atmosphere. We attract tea lovers from all over the world, who come to enjoy our wide selection of teas and our delicious DIMSUM and dumplings, made with fresh and organic ingredients.
At biochi, we are an EU-certified organic tea trader and retailer. “Bio” means nature, and “chi” means energy and China. We only serve real tea (C. Sinensis), pure, original, and organic. We source our tea directly from the farmers in China, who grow and process their tea with respect for the environment and the ancient traditions. We also educate our customers about the history, culture, and benefits of tea, and how to brew and enjoy it properly.
Our tea is for those who care about what they drink and eat. Enjoying a cup is more than just quenching your thirst; pairing it with DIMSUM or dumplings is more than just satisfying your appetite. It’s about holistic well-being, finding peace, happiness, and recharging with positive energy.
